Pre-Engineered External Storage FM200 System
Description:
The FM200 external storage piston flow fire suppression system is a high‑reliability clean agent solution using HFC‑227ea (FM200) as the extinguishing medium. Its external pressure‑driven design provides additional propelling force to deliver the agent over long distances, making it ideal for large spaces and complex pipe network layouts.
With a maximum working pressure of 8MPa, driving cylinder pressure of 6.0MPa (at 20°C), and pressurizing cylinder pressure of 13.5MPa, the system ensures fast and stable discharge. The discharge time is ≤10 seconds, enabling rapid fire suppression at the early stage of a fire. Cylinder sizes range from 90L to 245L, with filling capacities from 112.5kg up to 306.25kg. A single zone can protect up to 800m² of floor area or 3,600m³ of enclosure volume, offering flexible configuration to meet diverse project requirements.
FM200 (HFC‑227ea) is a colourless, odourless, low‑toxicity, non‑conductive, and residue‑free clean agent. It does not damage sensitive equipment and requires no post‑discharge clean‑up, helping to ensure business continuity and asset protection.
The system supports both automatic and manual activation modes, providing high operational reliability and easy maintenance. It is widely used in data centres, server rooms, telecom rooms, power distribution rooms, control rooms, libraries, archives, vaults, and underground facilities. It is suitable for Class A, B, C fires as well as electrical fires.
Compared with conventional FM200 pipe network systems, the external
storage piston flow design significantly improves discharge
distance and agent distribution uniformity. It effectively resolves
common issues such as pressure loss over long pipelines and
insufficient discharge in large spaces. This makes it an ideal fire
suppression solution for critical assets and large‑scale protection
projects.

Fire extinguishing principle of fire extinguishing agent:
HFC‑227ea extinguishes fire primarily through rapid heat absorption. Its extinguishing mechanism consists of three key actions:
Cooling the protected area
Dispersion of the extinguishing agent
Oxygen depletion
(1) FM200 is discharged into the protected area in liquid form. As it passes through the nozzle, the liquid agent rapidly vaporises and absorbs heat from the environment, lowering the temperature of the protected area and the surroundings of the flame.
(2) FM200 consists of large molecules. During a fire, some molecular bonds break and absorb additional heat.
(3) The discharge of the extinguishing agent and the presence of the flame reduce the oxygen concentration in the protected area, thereby slowing the combustion rate.
Working principle of independent unit system
The working principle of this system is straightforward. When a
fire occurs, the alarm control panel issues a command. After a
preset delay, the solenoid valve opens and releases the nitrogen
from the driving gas cylinder set. The starting gas travels through
the start‑up pipeline and activates the power‑driven cylinder set.
The gas from the power‑driven cylinder set pushes the extinguishing
agent out of the agent storage cylinders. The agent then flows
through the flexible hoses and liquid check valves into the
manifold, the delivery pipe network, and finally through the
nozzles into the protected area to extinguish the fire.
